Description
Current-gen Toyota Fortuner was first launched in 2016. The three-row SUV has remained largely unchanged over the decade. While that hasn’t affected its sales, a proper update for the Fortuner is long overdue. The new Fortuner is confirmed to be revealed globally on December 01. The India launch will follow sometime in 2027; the exact timeline is yet to be confirmed. Major updates are expected on the styling front. The upcoming Fortuner could borrow inspiration from the new Hilux that launched in India earlier this year, but with some distinct touches to differentiate it from the latter. That means sharper styling across the board, while retaining the SUV’s rugged stance. Similarly, the new Fortuner is expected to receive major updates in the cabin. The SUV could feature the same dashboard layout as the new Hilux, along with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a digital driver’s display. Other features, such as a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats, could also be offered on higher variants. Additionally, the SUV is also expected to get Level 2 ADAS. As with the new Hilux, the underpinnings, including the IMV ladder frame chassis, are expected to carry over, with tweaks to the suspension setup. In terms of powertrain options, expect the new Fortuner to offer the same engines as the current model. This includes a 2.7-litre NA petrol engine and a 2.8-litre diesel engine. Higher variants could be offered with a 48V mild-hybrid setup, as it is on the current model. Prices for the current Fortuner start at Rs 35.11 lakh and Rs 35.75 lakh for the petrol and diesel variants, respectively, and go up to ~Rs 51 lakh (all ex-showroom prices) for the top-spec GR-S trim (diesel only). There’s also a Legender version of the Fortuner on sale, priced between Rs 43.35 lakh and Rs 48.77 lakh, ex-showroom. Whether the new Fortuner will also get a similar version remains to be seen.
