Description
Moto Guzzi, part of the Piaggio Group, has unveiled its new Trip 500 roadster in Europe. The Trip 500 will become Moto Guzzi's small-capacity offering when it goes on sale in early 2027, with Moto Guzzi looking to tap into the entry-level roadster market. The Trip 500 comes with a 500cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, making a claimed 48bhp. With Moto Guzzi falling under the Piaggio Group, it's possible that '500cc' might be a marketing term, and the engine is closely related to Aprilia's 457cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin, evidenced by similar engine cases and the underbelly exhaust. The Trip 500 could come with a different state of tune or gearing to suit the roadster's character. The Trip 500 also uses a USD fork setup and a large front disc with radially-mounted ByBre braking hardware. The Mandello del Lario-based automaker calls the Trip 500 the 'first of a new generation' for Moto Guzzi, bucking the Italian manufacturer's trend of using transversely mounted, air-cooled V-twin engines. The Trip 500's performance targets the A2 license class in Europe, which has a performance cap of 48bhp, and a power-to-weight limit for larger-capacity models. Moto Guzzi hopes the Trip 500 will appeal to newer riders or those returning to motorcycling, and draw them to the Moto Guzzi brand. The Trip 500 takes cues from Moto Guzzi's larger motorcycles, offering a dialled-down design with less drama. Moto Guzzi has gone for a clean-line approach with the Trip 500, with a blacked-out engine and alloy wheels. The muscular fuel tank holds 15 litres, while small embroidered touches on the seat elevate the ownership experience. On the tech front, the Trip 500 features a 3.5-inch circular color TFT display. It also features a ride-by-wire throttle and multiple ride modes, selected via the digital cluster. The TFT also includes pictogram navigation (read turn-by-turn navigation), with smartphone connectivity bundled into the package. A bi-directional quickshifter rounds off the electronics suite.
