Description
In this video, Mike from CCTV Camera Pros demonstrates how-to display multiple IP security cameras on a TV using the Viewtron IP camera to HDMI decoder box.

This is a follow-up to our last video where Mike configured the decoder for a single camera live view. The IP to TV decoder supports decoding up to 4 RTSP streams. The video streams can be obtained directly from IP cameras, or the decoder can be used in conjunction with the Viewtron HDMI to RTSP encoder so that you can transmit an entire HDMI video signal over a single stream. In this video, Mike is connected got the RTSP streams from IP cameras connected to his Viewtron NVR.
What Mike covers:
- 2-camera side-by-side default layout
- 3-camera default layout
- 4-camera grid view
- Single full-screen view
- Customizing the 2-camera and 3-camera display layout — drag and stretch each camera to fill the screen any way you want
Why Viewtron 180 degree cameras work so well in custom layouts:
The 180 camera has a much wider natural aspect ratio than a standard 16:9 security camera. That makes a big difference when you start customizing layouts on the TV.
In a 2-camera view, you can stretch two 180 cameras to the full width of the screen — one stacked on top of the other — and the image is not distorted because you're displaying the camera at close to its native aspect ratio. If you tried this same layout with two traditional 16:9 cameras, both images would get stretched out and distorted because they're being displayed at an aspect ratio they weren't designed for.
The 3-camera view is also interesting. You can place a 180 camera full width on the top line, then put two traditional 16:9 cameras side-by-side underneath. The 180 camera fills the wide upper space without distortion, and the two regular cameras display at their native aspect ratio in the bottom half.
Network-based spot monitor solution for both IP and BNC/CCTV cameras:
All Viewtron IP camera NVRs and hybrid CCTV DVRs make individual RTSP streams available for every camera connected to them — IP cameras on the NVR side, and BNC/coax cameras on the hybrid DVR side. The decoder pulls those RTSP streams over your network and outputs them to a TV.
This means you can use the decoder as one or more live view spot monitors in addition to the HDMI output(s) already on your DVR or NVR. Put a spot monitor on the family room TV, in the lobby, the manager's office, the break room, or a separate building — anywhere on your network where there's a TV.
This is a live spot monitor solution that works entirely over IP. Traditional coax video multiplexers solve the same problem for BNC cameras, but they require hardwired coax cable runs from each camera to the TV location. With the IP decoder, you use the network you already have. No new cable runs to add a spot monitor in another room — and because all Viewtron hybrid DVRs make RTSP streams available, this works for BNC/CCTV camera installations too, not just IP.
Setup walkthrough:
1. Log into the decoder's web interface
2. Stream Address Settings — select 1, 2, 3, or 4 streams and enter the RTSP URLs
3. Channel Layout under Advanced Settings — switch from the default side-by-side to custom layouts (stacked, full-width stretched, etc.)
A few more things worth knowing:
- The decoder works with any IP camera that supports RTSP — Viewtron and most ONVIF compatible brands
- If you need to display more than 4 cameras on one TV, pair the decoder with our HDMI to IP encoder — connect the encoder to the HDMI output of any DVR or NVR and stream the entire recorder display over the network to one or more decoders
- A bundled encoder + decoder kit is also available if you want both in one purchase
