In this video, Mike Haldas, co-founder of CCTV Camera Pros, walks you through a live demonstration of the Viewtron LPR camera API interface for software integrations. Viewtron license plate recognition camera model LPR-IP4 has a HTTP Post API that can send an XML payload to a webhook URL. The XML payload contains information such as the plate number, if it is in an authorized plate list, and a snapshot image of the license plate capture event.
The Viewtron IP camera API opens up endless possibilities for third-party system integrations and automation. Mike Haldas demonstrates how he configured an python web server running on a Raspberry Pi to receive and process these events, showing you step-by-step how plates are recognized, checked against a database, and logged.
During the demo, you’ll see how one plate is set up as an authorized entry in the camera’s local database, while another is left unauthorized—demonstrating how the system handles both use cases. You’ll also learn how to configure the LPR detection zone, add plates to the allow list, tweak network settings, and specify the types of alarm data sent to your API server.
For DIYers and integrators, Mike Haldas describes how to use the Raspberry Pi GPIO ports to control entry gates for access control, based on authorization logic—showing real-world automation possibilities. He also covers advanced features like saving full-frame and cropped license plate images, writing recognition events to CSV files, and extending the solution beyond license plates to include facial recognition cameras, vehicle detection, human intrusion detection, perimeter detection and more with Viewtron AI cameras.
