It is a one-channel coax analog to IP video converter that lets you upgrade your existing CCTV system to a modern IP camera system with a Viewtron NVR — without ripping out the coax cable runs you already have in place.
This is a fantastic upgrade path for anyone with an older analog CCTV system. Keep your existing BNC cameras, keep your existing RG59 Siamese coax runs, and use the VT-VS5 encoder to connect those cameras to a Viewtron IP camera NVR. Once connected, the encoder has a plug and play integration with Viewtron IP camera NVRs. The software integration lets you take advantage of the full set of AI software functions on the NVR — human detection, car detection, face detection, and facial recognition (the face recognition feature requires a Viewtron NVR because the face database lives on the NVR).
Fully ONVIF Compliant IP Camera Stream
The VT-VS5 turns the connected analog camera into a fully ONVIF-compliant IP camera stream. That means you can use it with a Viewtron NVR or with any ONVIF-compliant NVR or IP camera software. It supports all of the major BNC video formats including HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI, and legacy CVBS analog up to 5 megapixel resolution.
Plug-and-Play with Viewtron NVRs
Pair the VT-VS5 with a Viewtron IP camera NVR for the deepest integration. Once connected, the encoder is recognized as an IP camera on the NVR, and you can configure all of the NVR-side AI functions on the analog camera connected to it — line crossing detection, perimeter intrusion detection for humans and vehicles, face detection, and facial recognition.

Two Installation Options
The VT-VS5 can be installed two ways depending on your existing wiring:
Option 1 — Use the NVR's PoE to power the camera. Place the encoder near the BNC camera, run a single Cat5 or Cat6 cable back to a PoE port on the Viewtron NVR. The encoder accepts PoE power on the network port and has a 12V DC output to power the connected BNC camera — effectively turning your BNC camera into a PoE camera over one cable.
Option 2 — Keep your existing Siamese cable and power supply box. Leave the existing coax and power cable running from the BNC camera back to its current location. Place the encoder near the NVR. Plug the BNC into the encoder, then a short Cat5/Cat6 jumper from the encoder to one of the PoE ports on the NVR. This is the right setup when you already have Siamese cable installed and a power supply box in place. The 12V DC output on the encoder is optional — you do not have to use it.
Use Specialty BNC Cameras on an IP NVR
Another great use case for the VT-VS5: there are specialty BNC cameras — hidden cameras, sprinkler-head cameras, pinhole cameras, motion-sensor form-factor cameras — that were never made in a native IP camera version. The VT-VS5 lets you connect those niche BNC cameras to a Viewtron IP NVR and integrate them into a modern AI camera system.
