Sengoku period of Japan | pre-1592
The Sengoku period was a long civil war during the medieval Japan between late 1460s and 1600s, when the entire nation was splitted with the result of independent clans, each fighting for full control over all of Japan. Later in this era, Oda Nobunaga's clan saw such opportunity to reunite Japan, and despite Nobunaga's death in 1582, a familiar retainer and ally named Toyotomi Hideyoshi continued this said vision to unite all the clans into one. By the early 1590s, Japan was at that point unified under the Toyotomi clan.

Invasions of Korea | 1592-1598
Hideyoshi drew his idea to control not only Korea, but China and as well as India for the reference. In 1592, the Toyotomi-led Japan invaded Korea at a successful rate with Hanseong (Seoul) falling into Japanese forces within weeks. At one point, the efficient Joseon navy led by admiral Yi Sun-sin, combined with Ming and Joseon land army, managed to slow down Hideyoshi's army to push any further. Peace negotiations were then held for ca. 3 years, though Japan nor China came to any mutual agreement. Japan launched a second but less succeeded invasion in 1597 and the war ended upon Hideyoshi's death in 1598, eventually funneling the rise of a new Japan under the Tokugawa clan.

Colonisation of Korea | 1910
In another century, Japan iterated the idea to expand its role further into the Asian continent in the late 1800s. Through military conflicts with China and Russia that favoured the Japanese side, such expansion progressively made it through by increasing large influence in the Korean peninsula via treaties between Korea and Japan, focusing on less armed measurements on the surface. In 1910, Korea ultimately became a Japanese colony, and would then regain its independence in 1945.
