The early weeks of July 1941, Operation Platinum Fox under Eduard Dietl's command runs at a slow but careful phase, establishing the German-Finnish lines across the areas of the Litsa River. As aforementioned difficulties with the Arctic terrain, logistics and sparse manpower in the frontlines, 'surprise' waves of Soviet forces made the Axis pursuit of reaching Murmansk more complicated. Much of other contesting parts such as Karelia and Salla during the Continuation War, the Petsamo / Arctic Circle theatre went into stalemate - a classic situation of "trench warfare" as the German forces remained stationary and active in the Murmansk objective until the end of the Axis-failed operation, and eventually the entire war itself.
