Description
Welcome back to Part 3 of the V3 DIY foil board build! Today we are shaping the board and getting the foil tracks routed and epoxied in.
I started by hand-shaping the EPS foam core, first we clean up the blank, then cut and clean up the boards outline, move to rocker design, then bring the board to thickness, the shape the displacment hull in the nose, the. the rail design, then the board deck convex design. From there, I put my new benchtop CNC to work—using the Genmitsu 4040-PRO to perfectly mill out the tracks mounting plate. Once the plate was ready, I fitted it to the blank, then, glued everything up with epoxy, and let it set.

What we handle in this episode:
Hand Shaping: Cleaning up the EPS foam block and getting the rails and rocker dialed.
CNC Track Plate: Using the 4040-PRO to precisely mill the high-density foam track block.
The Glue Up: Fitting the tracks, mixing the epoxy, and letting the core cure.

💡 QUICK DIY Q&A
Q: Why use a CNC for the foil tracks instead of a manual router?
A: Because its new and I wanted to use it! Plus Precision. The foil tracks need to be perfectly square and level with the board's centerline. The benchtop CNC makes it dead accurate, exactly 90mm apart and perfect fit
Q: Can you use foam instead of cedar.
A: Yes, I like using the cedar plate but you could add a high density foam insert instead. Standard EPS foam is too soft and would collapse under the foil's leverage, so a dense reinforcement plate/block is a must.
