A manager applied to his own company’s job opening under a fake name using essentially his own resume — and the hiring system rejected him in six minutes.
The reason?
The job filter required “ReactJS.”
His resume said “React.”
That was enough.
The company had apparently been rejecting qualified applicants while managers were being told the candidate pipeline was weak.
And that’s a perfect example of how little time and context your resume may actually get during the hiring process.
In this video, we’re going through resume mistakes, ATS filters, resume keywords, formatting problems, employment history, skills sections and the kinds of red flags that can get an applicant rejected before they ever reach an interview.
We also look at real resume examples with issues like:
Founder and self-employed titles.
Too many simultaneous jobs and side projects.
Missing technical skills.
Buzzwords instead of actual tools and software.
Confusing employment dates.
Two-page resumes filled with repetitive information.
Graphics and icons that can create ATS problems.
And resumes that force the recruiter to work too hard to understand what the candidate actually did.
The purpose of a resume is to get you to the interview.
You don’t get to explain everything if the person reviewing the resume throws it away first.
That means clarity matters.
Relevant keywords matter.
Readable dates matter.
Specific tools matter.
And anything that creates unnecessary questions can become a reason for someone to move on to the next applicant.
