🕰️ Historical reference:
The well known event of the Great War (WWI) here is no other than the German invasion of Belgium, alongside with Luxembourg as well, starting early in August 1914. The both countries next to Germany were neutral, in hopes of maintaining their independence. Unfortunately, the Reich itself ignored the neutral states and ended up occupying them, only to reach their main destination and enemy, namely France.
While the Belgian defense against Germany was in full action, Luxembourg and its small army too got a significant play in the worrying events, though with lighter and little fight against the aggressors. At the end of the war in 1918, the both nations returned back to its regular sovereignty...for now.
