Before you lift heavy (for you), you must understand these 3 things.

If you’re about to increase the weight, because you’re getting stronger or you’re beginning a new phase that requires more weight / less reps, then you must understand these 3 things.

1 - Perfect technique
Technique becomes more and more important, the heavier you lift. AND the heavier you lift, the harder it is to maintain quality technique. So spend time and lots of practice making the technique as good as it can be before adding weight.

2 - Go slow
Really slow the rep down to focus on the quality of the rep and the safety of the exercise. Mistakes and injuries can happen if you rush through heavy reps. This also gives you the time focus on the technique and make any micro changes moment to moment.

3 - Listen to your body’s signals
With lighter weights you might be able to ignore your body warning signs, but as soon as you lift heavier, that’s not an option anymore. If you have a sore lower back, knee or shoulder etc, do not push through the pain just so you can lift heavy! It’s time to work on proper rehab / strengthening of the area before increasing the weight!

I see so much ‘ego lifting’ and not enough real results these days. Don’t worry what anyone else is lifting, and focus on your progress!

So please, focus on quality training. This will help ensure better results and much better longevity!
