All Out Gun-Fight with Mass Shooter

Description

On July 25, 2023, Cedar Hill police responded to reports of an active shooter at the Methodist Family Health Center on East Belt Line Road shortly after 12:15 p.m. Officers arrived to find a physician on the ground with a gunshot wound.

A man, later identified as 34-year-old Bryan McGee of Glenn Heights, was seen leaving the area with a long gun and entering a black Chrysler. McGee’s ex-girlfriend worked at the clinic, and police stated he had recently made threats against her, describing the incident as a planned attack.

McGee’s vehicle crashed a short distance away in the 700 block of East Belt Line Road. Responding officers confronted him as he remained inside the car.

According to the department’s review of body-worn camera and dashcam footage, McGee fired at officers first. Five officers returned fire, causing the suspect to at one point drop his firearm and the exchange paused.

The suspect then picked the weapon back up, prompting officers to re-engage to stop the threat. Officers later approached the vehicle, removed McGee, and began life-saving measures.

McGee was transported to a hospital in critical condition. He was subsequently charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and attempted capital murder of a peace officer.

Additional weapons and ammunition were recovered from his vehicle. The following day, Cedar Hill police released portions of the body camera and in-car video to the media, stating the release was made in the interest of transparency.
