Description
Vespa of always , and anyone hoping for an aesthetic revolution will be left empty-handed: steel body, LED headlight, alloy wheels, the shapes we know by heart. For 2027, Piaggio has done the work on the inside, replacing the range's electric motor with a new unit , designed and built in Italy by the Pontedera group. There are two pieces of news. The first is that the new engine has a modular architecture, the same base that adapts to the different versions , and is combined with a new Vehicle Management System and a speed sensor that, according to the manufacturer, makes for more precise handling. The second, less obvious, is that it does not use rare earths : the magnets in electric motors are almost always made of neodymium and similar materials, materials whose extraction has a significant impact on the environment and which mostly come from a single country. For a scooter that also sells itself on the theme of eco-friendliness, this is a missing piece. Piaggio hasn't released the power, torque, and battery capacity data for the new engine, so we'll have to wait for the spec sheets to reveal the real numbers. The family remains composed of three models. The electric Primavera and Sprint S are approved as mopeds , can be ridden from age 14 and stop at 45 km/h: for them, the new engine means more torque, meaning quicker starts at traffic lights, with a declared range of up to 85 km in ECO mode and a removable battery for home charging. The Primavera Tech, on the other hand, is approved as a motorcycle , with a declared top speed of 67 km/h: here the gain is all in efficiency, with a range of up to 100 km in ECO mode, 12.5% more than before , energy consumption down by 17% and 90 km in the WMTC type-approval cycle. Only the Tech comes standard with the 5-inch TFT dashboard , which shows remaining range, battery status and braking recovery level, and which also displays navigation, calls and messages via the Vespa MIA app (a paid accessory on the other two). The Tech also features two LED courtesy lights in the back of the leg shield, which stay on for 30 seconds after the engine is turned off, and a keyless entry system with immobilizer. Across the entire range, there's a remote control key , which opens the seat and flashes the indicators to help you find the scooter in a parking lot, a USB port in the back of the leg shield, and a Maintenance function, which protects the battery when the Vespa is parked for a long time.
