Your eyes are the loudest thing you own on a basketball court

Description

Your eyes are the loudest thing you own on a basketball court.

Most players look right at the teammate they're about to pass to. The defense reads that look, steps into the lane, and the pass is gone before it leaves your hands.

Think of the defense as a house. It has windows, and those windows are the passing lanes. You can't break one by staring at it, because the house sees you coming.

So don't stare. Look somewhere else, then fire the ball to the open window like a piston: straight, quick, and with no wind-up to give it away. The defender follows your eyes. The ball goes where he isn't.

Every pass is a transaction. The look sells the defense one thing, and the piston delivers the other.

Next time you practice, pick a target and stare at a different one. It feels strange for about a week. After that you won't pass any other way.

The eyes tell the defense where you're going. Make them wrong.
