A Great Pass Doesn't Start With Your Hands

Description

Most players think a great pass starts with the hands.

It doesn't. It starts with where your body is when the defender arrives.

PGC Basketball calls it PVAD:

Position of your body.
That gives you Vision.
Vision gives you Anticipation.
Anticipation gives you the Decision.

Each link feeds the next. Break the first one and everything after it is guessing.

Watch what happens when a player takes contact and stays balanced. He can still see the whole floor. He sees the help coming before it gets there, so the decision is easy. Now watch the player who gets knocked off his line. All he sees is the defender's chest, and everything he does from there is a reaction.

It works the same at every age and every level. The best players are simply the ones whose bodies keep their eyes in the game.

So stop asking, "Why did I make that bad decision?" Ask, "Where was my body two steps earlier?"

You can't make a good decision from a bad view.
