Description
Most players think a great passer is a fast one.
Watch this clip again. The best passer on the floor is the one who's in no hurry.
He slows himself down and lets the play develop. He touches the paint, so the defense has to choose. He catches with his eyes on the rim, so the defender has to respect the shot. Then he fakes with his eyes, and the defender leans the wrong way.
The pass isn't the skill. The pass is the last thing that happens. The skill is making the defense move first, so the pass gets easy.
Notice the ball never sticks. Every player decides in about half a second. That speed comes from being ready, not from rushing.
Hurry, and the defense gets to guess. Wait, and they have to choose.
Next time you watch film, count how many passes were easy because of what happened before the pass.
