Draymond Green Defensive IQ

Description

Dick DeVenzio wrote: “Lose the idea of stealing a ball from a man. You can only get a ball from a man if he makes a mistake.”

Watch Draymond against Kawhi in the fourth. He doesn’t lunge. He stays low, fights through the screen, denies the catch, and makes every touch uncomfortable. Then he tips the ball to a teammate, because the job is the possession and not the highlight.

Five turnovers in the second half. Not one came from gambling.

Dick called it “give-’em-a-chance-to-make-a-mistake” defense. Close enough that nothing is easy. Disciplined enough that you never hand them a free throw.

What’s your defensive habit: forcing the mistake, or waiting for one?
