Description
Traditional Turkish sambali Dessert recipe with Kaymak Soft Semolina Syrup Cake very easy delicious
In this video, I show you how to make Traditional Turkish Şambali Dessert, one of the most famous street desserts in Turkey. This dessert is made with semolina, yogurt and syrup, and it has a soft texture that absorbs syrup like a sponge.
In this recipe, the dessert is baked until it turns beautifully golden on the top and bottom, then hot syrup is poured over it. After resting, it is served by opening the middle and adding traditional Turkish kaymak.
This dessert is simple, uses only a few ingredients, and the result is incredibly delicious.
Below you can find the exact measurements for 1 tray.
Ingredients (For 1 Tray)
900 g semolina
2 glasses fresh yogurt (600 ml – glass size 300 ml)
1 glass sugar
1 glass water
1 full spoon flour
1 full spoon ground cinnamon
1 packet vanilla powder
10 g baking soda
For the topping
Unsalted peeled peanuts or almonds
Syrup
1 kg sugar
1330 g water
A few small pieces of lemon salt
Boil the syrup first. After it starts boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes.
Instructions
Mix yogurt, water, sugar, flour, cinnamon, vanilla and baking soda in a bowl using a whisk.
Then gradually add the semolina while mixing. After mixing, let the mixture rest for about 5 minutes so the semolina absorbs the liquid and thickens.
Use an aluminum tray for best results. Add a little syrup and a little vegetable oil to the bottom of the tray so the dessert browns well and does not stick.
Pour the mixture into the tray and smooth the top with a spatula. Slice the dessert into rectangular pieces and place two peanut halves on each slice.
Bake in a 170°C oven for about 30 minutes until the top and bottom are nicely golden brown. If necessary, rotate the tray during baking.
As soon as the dessert comes out of the oven, pour the boiling hot syrup over it.
Let the dessert rest for 1 day at room temperature. Do not put it in the refrigerator.
For serving, open the middle of each slice and add traditional cow kaymak, then close it and enjoy.
