The Express Light is a roughly 53-lb, $1,100 commuter e-bike built around simplicity, nimble handling, and a more natural riding experience.
But there’s an interesting story behind this bike. The original pre-production version we tested used a 350W motor that struggled in our hill testing. After we shared our results, the company delayed the launch, upgraded the bike to a 500W motor, increased the rear brake rotor size, and sent us the revised version to test again.
In this review, we test its speed, Class 3 performance, hill climbing, braking, drivetrain, handling, comfort, and overall ride quality.
The updated Express Light proved capable of climbing our steep test hill, reached 28 mph with pedal assist, and impressed us most with its smooth, quiet motor engagement and agile, bicycle-like feel.
At around $1,100, it’s a simple, lightweight-to-midweight commuter that delivers a surprisingly refined ride without loading the bike up with unnecessary extras.
