The GoTrax F3 takes the classic budget folding e-bike formula — fat tires, front suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, solid power, and a folding frame — and brings it in at roughly $899 to $999.

But does the F3 actually feel like a good e-bike, or did GoTrax cut too many corners to reach that price?

In this review, we put the GoTrax F3 through our full Electric Bike Report testing process, including speed, throttle performance, range, hill climbing, braking, ride quality, comfort, folding practicality, off-road performance, and mechanic impressions.

The F3 features a 500W rear hub motor, 672Wh battery, torque sensor, Class 1/2/3 settings, twist throttle, Shimano 7-speed drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors, front suspension, 20x4” fat tires, metal fenders, integrated lights, and a rear cargo rack.

In our range testing, we recorded 32.26 miles using maximum assist and 74.02 miles in PAS 1. That low-power result came at a very slow average speed, however, so riders looking for a more typical cruising pace should expect less.

The F3 also surprised us with its power. It reached 20 mph by pedal assist in about 7 seconds and 28 mph in roughly 14.5 seconds. It also successfully climbed our test hill using both throttle and pedal assist.

Ride quality and build quality were two of the bigger surprises. The frame and folding mechanism feel solid, there is plenty of adjustment for different rider heights, the saddle is more comfortable than expected, and the fat tires and suspension fork provide a comfortable ride on pavement and light off-road terrain.

There are still a few compromises. The Shimano 7-speed drivetrain starts to produce some ghost pedaling around 19–20 mph and above, the grips can rotate during use, and at roughly 66.5 lb, the F3 is portable but not exactly lightweight.

Overall, the GoTrax F3 delivers most of the features buyers expect from a folding fat tire e-bike at a price well under many competitors. It isn't perfect, but the combination of solid build quality, good power, comfortable ride quality, useful range, and an affordable price makes it a compelling budget option.
