Segway is best known for scooters and electric mobility products, but can it build a real commuter e-bike that actually rides like a bicycle?

In this review, we test the Segway Myon, a tech-forward Class 3 commuter e-bike with auto shifting, electronic shifting, GPS, Apple Find My, app controls, air lock security, turn signals, a 500W motor that peaks at 1500W, and a 720Wh removable battery.

The Myon can be set up as a Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, or California Class 3 e-bike, depending on your local rules. It also includes a Shimano CUES 9-speed drivetrain, Segway’s own electronic shifting system, a full-color display, turn-by-turn navigation, music controls, an alarm system, over-the-air updates, and optional rear radar.

We put the Myon through our real-world testing process, including speed, range, hill climbing, braking, ride quality, drivetrain feel, auto shifting, app features, and mechanic impressions.

In our range testing, the Myon delivered 82.1 miles on minimum assist and 41.26 miles on full power. On the hill, it became the strongest 500W rear hub motor we’ve taken up our test climb so far, making it up on throttle and delivering smooth, natural power while pedaling.

This is definitely a tech-heavy e-bike, and the cockpit takes some getting used to. But once you peel back all the features, the Myon still rides fast, smooth, and efficient, which is exactly what a commuter e-bike needs to do.

Let us know in the comments: do you like this much tech on an e-bike, or would you rather keep things simple?
