The Secret to This Game Changer Popper

McFly Angler Guide 22 days ago

Description

Game Changers are known for their incredible movement in the water, and poppers are great at drawing fish to the surface.

Combine the two, and you get a fly that's capable of attracting some serious attention from predatory fish.

One challenge with foam poppers is keeping the head from spinning on the hook. In the full tutorial, I show a simple hard mono trick that helps lock everything in place and keep the fly aligned.

I also used Solarez Top Coat 77 on this fly, which has quickly become my favorite finish for foam poppers. It really makes the colors stand out while providing a durable, flexible finish.
And despite how complicated this fly may look, it's actually much easier to tie than most people think.

The full Game Changer Popper tutorial is available now on my YouTube channel.

Hooks I use: Risen Fly. Most of the tying materials I use come from J. Stockard. Both have been great to work with and I genuinely recommend checking them out if you tie your own flies. For the popper head coating, I used Solarez Top Coat 77. It has quickly become my favorite finish for foam poppers.
