Description
One thing became obvious almost immediately while building this hypothetical five-fly box...
Panfish aren't nearly as picky as trout or even bass.
Most of us aren't trophy hunting bluegill.
We're taking the kids to a pond, sneaking out after work for an hour, or simply trying to bend a rod and have some fun.
That completely changed how I approached this challenge.
Instead of looking for the perfect fly, I focused on simple, durable patterns that are quick to tie and just plain fun to fish.
This Thursday I'll share the five flies that made my box—and why they earned their place.
What's your favorite panfish fly?
Hooks I use: Risen Fly. Most of the tying materials I use come from J. Stockard. Both have been great to work with and I genuinely recommend checking them out if you tie your own flies.
