Description
Today’s National Shooting Sports Month video features the only Kimber I own and the only one I’ve ever personally experienced reliability with… the unexpected striker fired home run design: The EVO SP.
Kimber is a successful company. They sell a lot of guns. I’ve only very rarely had any students get through a class without have major problems with them. Obviously, they have their fans and detractors all across social media… I’m in the latter group. I was skeptical when they came out with a striker fired all metal subcompact pistol. But, I gave it a chance and was Very Impressed.
The EVO SP was actually Kimber’s second try at a striker fired pistol and by all reports, they needed to try again. When I first started shooting this gun, I was so impressed with its reliability that I kept inviting other people at the range to try it out. I decided to keep shooting it without cleaning or even lubrication to see how far it would go. I stopped at 1000 rounds, including a significant number of hollow points. I posted this video to mark the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82K5WUUyyDU&t=9, I had also posted a few updates along the way to 1000.
If I had to carry a Kimber for defense, there’s no doubt that it would be this EVO.
Do you have a gun in your collection that surprised you? Or an uber-reliable gun that you think significantly outperforms typical examples?
