The Curious Caveman Was the One Who Left the Cave | 好奇 hào qí

ShaoLan: Chineasy & Lifeasy Podcast 6 days ago

Description

Gina Pell, founder of The What and the person who coined the term Perennials for people who remain relevant and ever-growing regardless of age, says curiosity is the core of everything she does, because if you are not curious you are simply concentrating on everything you already know, parking, and staying still. She makes one observation that stops the conversation: the curious caveman was the one who left the cave, walked past the supposedly flat earth, and pushed the boundaries of what was known. In Chinese, curious is 好奇 (hào qí): 好 (hào) here means to love or be fond of, the same character as good but in its fourth tone, and 奇 (qí) is something strange, unusual, or refreshing and new, so to be curious is to be fond of discovering something new and strange. 好奇心 (hào qí xīn) is curiosity itself, with 心 (xīn) the heart added at the end, because in Chinese, curiosity is not just a thought: it is the heart’s desire for what is new.
