Software in Chinese is 软件 (软件, ruǎn jiàn): soft plus piece. Hardware is 硬件 (yìng jiàn): hard plus piece. The entire computing vocabulary built from two physical sensations. 件 (jiàn) is a piece of something, originally combining a person and a cow, because cattle in ancient China were the most precious single unit you could count. 电脑 (diàn nǎo) is computer: electric brain. 电脑软件 (diàn nǎo ruǎn jiàn) is computer software. Chafic Kazoun wrote his first code at eight. He still thinks human intelligence matters more than AI.
