We always hear the same takeaway from Peter walking on water.
He took his eyes off Jesus and started to sink. Keep your eyes on Jesus. That's the lesson.
It's a good lesson. But it's not the one that stopped me.
Here's what I keep coming back to.
Peter was the only one who got out of the boat.
Eleven other disciples were right there and they stayed put. Comfortable. Watching.
Peter stepped out. It kind of worked. Then he got distracted and started to sink.
And when he sank it was Jesus's hand that caught him.
That moment belongs only to Peter. Because he was the only one willing to get uncomfortable.
The other eleven watched from safety. Peter experienced it in the water.
