Description
19 bank robberies. More than $2 million stolen. Four years on the run from the FBI. And a violent shootout that brought one of Seattle's most notorious crime sprees to an end.
Thirty years later, one of the men behind it all is telling his story.
In the 1990s, Scott Scurlock became known as "Hollywood" — a bank robber whose elaborate disguises, meticulous planning, and daring heists made national headlines.
But behind the Hollywood disguise was a man few people truly knew. One of them was Steven Meyers.
Meyers wasn't an investigator, a journalist, or an outside observer. He was Scurlock's friend and accomplice. He helped plan the robberies, participated in the operation, and lived through its dramatic collapse.
Now, in his book The Treehouse: The True Story of Hollywood the Bank Robber, Meyers offers his firsthand account of the years he spent alongside one of America's most infamous bank robbers.
In this ARC Seattle interview, Patrick Hussion sits down with Meyers to explore the questions that still make this story so fascinating:
• Who was Scott Scurlock when he wasn't wearing the Hollywood disguise?
• How did an accomplished artist become involved in a multimillion-dollar bank robbery spree?
• What made Hollywood so difficult for the FBI to catch?
• How did the crew prepare for robberies, and what happened when things didn't go according to plan?
• Did Meyers ever believe their extraordinary double life could end in death?
From a remarkable treehouse hidden in the woods outside Olympia to the streets of Seattle, Meyers takes viewers inside a story that captivated the country — and explains what he believes people still misunderstand about it.
This is the Hollywood bank robbery story, told by someone who was there.
