Join Mary Margaret and Morgan—two young girls—as they reflect on their time at Camp Mystic, sharing memories and moments from the morning of July 4th. Their voices, like so many others, offer a powerful and personal perspective on that day.
I was honored to get to know both of them, along with many other young campers from Mystic and surrounding camps. While the original focus of this documentary was to speak with first responders and local residents, nearly half of our interviews ended up being with children—some as young as seven. With the support of their parents and by asking questions gently and at the right pace, the experience became healing for many of us.
I'm deeply grateful to Wade H. Cockburn, PhD—former camp counselor and now a child psychologist—who served as our Psychological & Educational Advisor. His guidance was instrumental in helping us approach each conversation with care and respect.
This is just one of many clips I’ll be sharing as we lead up to the theatrical premiere of River of Angels. Our goal is to help bring healing, preserve memory, and ensure that the lives impacted by the Kerr County flood of July 4th are never forgotten.
My wife grew up here in Kerr County, and I was a regular camper at Rio Vista as a child—so this place, and this river, feel like family to me. This story is close to my heart, and I hope it resonates with you as deeply as it has with all of us involved.
