Synopsis: River of Angels
On the morning of July 4th, 2025, a catastrophic flash flood tore through Kerr County, Texas, leaving beloved camps, RV parks, and riverside homes in ruin. Among the hardest hit was Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp, where the rising Guadalupe River claimed lives and forever altered a close-knit community.
From director Shawn Welling (Alive: A True Story of Hope, The Messenger: 360 Days of Bolivar) and produced by nationally syndicated radio host Michael Berry, with Executive Producer Tony Buzbee and narrated by famed actor Lee Majors, comes a searing and heartfelt documentary that honors the voices of those who lived this tragedy firsthand.
River of Angels is not told by outside media. It is told by Kerr County, through powerful testimonies from survivors, first responders, parents, and local leaders who weathered the storm and carried each other through it. This film marks the second major collaboration between Welling and Berry, following their critically acclaimed work on the Hurricane Ike documentary The Messenger.
Spearheaded locally by Michelle Welling—Shawn’s wife, who was born and raised in Kerrville—alongside trusted Kerr County leaders Kathy Simmons, Mike Simmons, and Kari Short, this documentary is rooted in the community it serves. It is a cinematic act of remembrance, resilience, and reverence for a sacred Texas place and the angels who rose in its darkest hour.
