This week, I had the chance to appear on one of my favorite talk shows, Isiah Factor Uncensored with my good buddy Isiah Carey of Fox 26. It’s a weekly show I love being part of. Every week, I meet some incredible people—everyone brings strong opinions to the table, but we still manage to laugh and applaud each other’s perspectives.
That’s what makes it so refreshing.
In this particular segment, we discussed tariffs on film. It’s still a bit early to predict exactly what Trump’s stance might be, but I did my best to weigh in based on my own experiences as a low-budget film director. My take might look very different from someone working on a Marvel-sized production.
A big part of our conversation also revolved around SAG-AFTRA. Over the years, SAG has treated me extremely well. They provide a great safety net for both cast and crew, adding a layer of security that’s especially crucial on larger sets. Of course, SAG does come with a price tag, so there are always pros and cons to consider.
Overall, I mostly theorized about what all of this could mean going forward—and so far, I see it as a positive. More work happening right here in America for local crews and actors is always a good thing.
To date, I’ve directed four SAG feature films, one SAG TV/web series, and also served as DP and producer on another SAG project. All great experiences.
