Queen Hatshepsut was a female pharoah who successfully ruled Egypt for almost 20 years and was known as "The Woman King.' She commissioned and built her own mortuary temple which is located opposite the city of Luxor, but more specifically it's in Deir el-Bahari. What is interesting is that despite her success, efforts were made to erase her images from temple walls all over Egypt, including her own mortuary temple. They tried to erase her from the history books and tried to prevent her from entering the afterlife. Some experts think it was King Thutmose III, Hatshepsut's stepmother and aunt, who ordered this to ensure that only males would be in line for succession, to discourage females from ruling in the future, and to protect his son's legitimacy.
