DENDERA: Greatest Ancient Egyptian Temple You've Never Heard Of! (4K)

Description

Dendera Temple is a 2,000 year-old temple dedicated to the ancient Egyptian goddess Hathor. I had not heard of Dendera Temple before I planned my Egypt trip, but I must say, my visit there was my #1 pleasant surprise in Egypt. I was given a tour by my guide Nour, who is an Egyptologist, but to me, this wasn't a tour-it was an adventure! Here are the highlights:

-Well-preserved 2,000 year-old turquoise high ceilings in the main hall with their numerous reliefs, hieroglyphics, and zodiac signs.

-The columns featuring the goddess Hathor that are so precise in their similar measurements, some think an ancient laser must have been used.

-The reliefs in two locations that look like light bulbs have given rise to a conspiracy theory that the ancient Egyptians had electricity.

-Standing on top of a pillar, knowing that an entire ancient temple lies beneath me.

-Climbing through small openings in the walls on my back and stomach to see ancient crypts (and I think we may have entered the afterlife).

-The black ceiling with zodiac signs that so impressed the French, they brought the original ceiling home with them, which is now in the Louvre Museum in Paris, and they made a copy which we now see.

There is so much more that I loved about this temple. If you enjoy learning about and seeing ancient Egyptian history, you will enjoy this video.
