EDFU TEMPLE: Buried in Sand for 2,000 Years! (4K)

Andy's Awesome Adventures Guide 3 months ago

Description

As part of my Nile Cruise tour, I explored Edfu Temple with my guide Nour, who is an Egyptologist. We arrived before sunrise and got to see the temple illuminated. It is one of the best preserved Ancient Egyptian Temples in Egypt because it was buried 40 feet in the sand for almost 2,000 years! There originally was an Egyptian temple here before it, but this is an ancient Greek temple built from 237-57 B.C. Edfu Temple was built by the Greeks but in the traditional Egyptian style. I think it took 180 years to build because there are so many ornate hieroglpyphs and reliefs on the walls, many explaining the stories of the falcon-headed god Horus, for whom the temple is dedicated.
