Description
The ATF just released major new NFA guidance affecting suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs), AOWs, Form 1s, Form 4s and NFA registration — and the biggest surprise is that the new enforcement policy goes nationwide.
In this video, we break down exactly what ATF’s October 9 guidance changes for gun owners, including when prior NFA approval is no longer being enforced, what happens to the Form 1 and Form 4 process, how suppressor transfers will work under the remaining Gun Control Act requirements, and why SBRs and SBSs still have some important additional restrictions.
We also explain what ATF says about interstate travel, Form 20 requirements, voluntary NFA registration, state laws and the major warning ATF included for anyone possessing an unregistered covered NFA item if this enforcement policy changes under a future administration.
Most importantly, the federal court did not make the Texas NFA injunction nationwide. DOJ and ATF have now made a separate policy decision to apply the nonenforcement position nationwide to the covered zero-dollar-tax NFA categories.
The NFA has not been repealed, and other federal, state and local firearm laws still apply. This video breaks down what changed, what did NOT change, and what gun owners need to understand before making decisions based on the new guidance.
