How should you clean a metal detector after a hunt, and should you lubricate its rubber gaskets or O-rings? In Mental Metal Academy Lesson 15, Scott walks through a practical maintenance routine for metal detectors, search coils, shafts, cables, connectors, batteries, and waterproof pinpointers.
You will learn how to rinse manufacturer-approved waterproof components after saltwater use, clean beneath removable coil covers, inspect cam locks and coil hardware, protect cables and strain reliefs, keep charging contacts dry, examine seals for damage, and prepare equipment for storage. The lesson also explains why some product manuals call for a thin film of silicone grease while others specifically prohibit grease on waterproof seals.
Always follow the manual for the exact detector or pinpointer. Waterproof ratings, cleaning procedures, battery guidance, and seal requirements vary by model.
