Description
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast active monsoon conditions over northwest and northeast India for the next four to five days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall and isolated extremely heavy showers likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Assam & Meghalaya. Extremely heavy rainfall was recorded in Uttarakhand and Meghalaya during the past 24 hours, while very heavy rain lashed Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and several northeastern states. The IMD said multiple upper-air cyclonic circulations and troughs across north, central and eastern India are driving the widespread rainfall activity. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected across several states. Meanwhile, subdued rainfall is likely to continue over west-central and south Peninsular India during the next seven days. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert for possible flooding, landslides and waterlogging.
