How To Eliminate Knee Pain In The Split Squat: Try These Adjustments

Description

In this video, I walk you through two options I use when split squats or lunges cause knee discomfort.

The first is a torso adjustment. Leaning forward can bring more glute involvement into the movement. If that feels better, we find the most upright torso position they can use through a full, pain-free range of motion.

And if that adjustment doesn’t help enough?

That’s where the RDL lunge comes in.

It’s a more hip-dominant variation that’s one of my go-to options in this situation. In the video, I show you how to coach it, what to watch for, and how to break it into simpler pieces when a client needs more practice.

Nothing works for everybody. That’s why we try an option, ask how it feels, and let their response guide the next step.

We’re finding wins and stacking wins.

This is a clip from my Movement Performance Assessment (MPA) digital course that teaches trainers the specific assessment I use with new clients.
