Description
What if it was 31.5°C inside your home, but you can’t feel the heat?
That's what researchers found when visiting an elderly resident in Singapore. As people age, their bodies become less sensitive to heat and less effective at cooling down, putting older people at greater risk of heat stress.
Now, researchers at the National University of Singapore are studying whether changes in speech and eye-related measurements could help detect early signs that the body is struggling with heat. Their hope is that these signals could eventually alert caregivers so they can step in.
As temperatures rise, how can communities across Southeast Asia better protect their most vulnerable? Watch the full Beating the Heat episode.
