I mostly visit Gabriel in the mornings. It's the best time to check on their health and they are usually happy to see someone. Wanted to show Gabriel again. He's turning 13 this August 2026 and doing well. I pray that continues and part of that is health checks every day. If I am not there, the staff does it but they don't and can't get up as close as me.
I show of my recent daily visits with Gabriel. It's always about the same... come to me, sit in front and a groom and purr session ensues. I use the time to reacquaint and feel his body for problems, smell his breath, listen to his purr, and his gait. All this and camp checks for poo consistency or vomit and his appetite and movements are all part of a daily check for captive cheetah health. One day I'll combine more lab tests, like urine, poo and blood or maybe even saliva bacteria to measure health and reediness for breeding (for the females).
