Just in time for Father's Day! After 11 years, Gabriel The Cheetah finally mates successfully with Zakira to produce 3 healthy perfect cubs. 1 male and 2 females. Zakira was a cheetah brought back to Running Wild Conservation from a breeders contract several years ago. We had a fund raiser to help bring her home and I had paid half of the costs... freely. Now that great gift paid off with 3 wonderful cubs from Gabriel, one of my male cheetahs I've known since cubhood.
Due to a breeders contract, I legally own one of the female cubs. I don't have a legal name for her yet, but staff at RWC are calling her Grace.
I was shocked by the method the veterinarian staff used to get the cubs to breath. They would violently thrust the cubs downward to aid in fluid removal from the nasal and mouth passageways. Waking them up is necessary immediately after performing a C-section on an animal like Zakira. A C-Section was necessary after one of the cubs got stuck in the birth canal during contractions. I researched this thrust method and the common consensus is the "thrust method" to extract fluids from the nasal, mouth and lungs is not longer used for C-Section birthed animals or humans. But, the cubs were strong and after vigorous rubbing inside a towel, they all woke up. There was one cub still born.
