David Bowie’s Red Money | The D.A.M Trilogy | Live at the Metropole | Berlin | 7 November 2025

Nacho Video Stream 8 months ago

Description

The D.A.M Trilogy is Carlos Alomar’s tribute project to honour his time as David Bowie’s guitarist and band leader in the latter half of the 1970’s.

Carlos has assembled a cast of musicians, including his former band mate, George Murray, to perform the iconic songs they helped create during Bowie’s “Berlin” era.

The band are currently touring Europe and the UK, to celebrate the “Berlin-era” art of David Bowie and his then-drummer, the legendary Dennis Davis, both of whom passed away in 2016.

This video is the first official live release from the project. The material was recorded absolutely live on 7th of November, at the Metropole in Berlin; the debut show of The D.A.M Trilogy tour.

Can you hear it well?

Sister Midnight and Red Money bookend David Bowie’s so-called Berlin era. The former was initially recorded at the Château d'Hérouville sessions in summer 1976, and was the opening track on Iggy Pop’s Bowie-produced, The Idiot album. It was a classic D.A.M. Trio groove, written by Carlos Alomar that originated from the Station to Station tour rehearsals, in early ‘76.

Three years later, the same backing track was recycled with added overdubs and new lyrics as Red Money, the closing track on the 1979 Bowie album, Lodger.

An element of the original Sister Midnight lyrics:
Can you hear me call?
Can you hear me well?
Can you hear me at all?

Re-emerged on Red Money as:
Can you hear it fall?
Can you hear it well?
Can you hear it at all?

Which better suited Red Money’s apparent subject matter of potential societal collapse.

Red Money was never played live by David Bowie. We will never know how those 1979-1980 Bowie songs would have sounded, had there been an early-80’s Lodger / Scary Monsters tour with the D.A.M. Trio.

So it’s great to hear this new arrangement of Red Money on the D.A.M. Trilogy tour. Cunio’s powerful lead vocal, is superbly contrasted by Lea Lorien’s clarion call backing harmonies. Kevin Armstrong’s dexterous lead guitar breaks and Axel Tosca’s keyboard atmospherics add flavour. Tal Bergman, Carlos Alomar and George Murray, on drums, guitar and bass respectively, hold down a rock solid groove.

Such responsibility
It’s up to you and me

Cinematographer and film maker Bernd Pick was in Berlin documenting the rehearsals and preparations for the tour and the Berlin show. He is Director of Photography and principal cameraman for this video project.

Audio was captured 100% live [no overdubs] by tour sound engineer Ben Murray.

The track was mixed and mastered by producer Andi Reisner.

All the components have been hurriedly assembled into this edit by Nacho.

Thanks for watching, I hope you dig it!
