Description
On May 10, 2025, The Sanctuary for Independent Media presented a concert by Colombian singer Lucía Pulido, whose songs infuse Afro-Colombian, Mexican, and Venezuelan folk sounds with experimental arrangements. Pulido's music pays homage to traditional genres such as cumbia and bullerengue from the Atlantic Coast, currulaos from the Pacific Coast, as well as joropos of the Colombian Eastern Plains. Her vocal sophistication is enhanced in genres such as herding songs (cantos de vaquería), funeral laments (alabaos) and harvest chants (cantos de zafra). Pulido performed with her quartet, featuring Sebastian Cruz (guitar), Stomu Takeishi (bass), and Michael W. Davis (drums).
