Kayak fishing near Stickney Point Bridge in Sarasota, Florida turned into one of those rare mornings where everything just lined up. I went out targeting inshore species with live shrimp and ended up limiting out on mangrove snapper in about 30 minutes—something I’ve never experienced before fishing this area.

For this trip, I kept things simple and budget-friendly, using a $50 rod and reel combo paired with 15 lb fluorocarbon leader and a #2 yellowtail snapper jig. The bite was nonstop early, and it only took about a dozen live shrimp to put together a full limit of keeper mangrove snapper around the bridge structure.

After the early action, I slowed things down a bit and talked through the conditions, tide, and approach before mixing things up. Later in the session, I moved to a different part of the bridge and nearby docks where I caught snook on live shrimp and even tied in a flashback clip from a recent trip where I landed a big redfish using cut ladyfish as bait.
