What are these episodes parodying?
Starting off we have the SpongeBob episode ‘Squeaky Boots’ which is a parody of Edgar Allen Poe’s short story ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ via its own portrayal of a hiding the evidence of a crime along with the Guilt-Driven Auditory Hallucinations.
Up next is a full-on trilogy with South Park’s Black Friday trilogy parodying The Game of Thrones. It does so by treating the launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles as their own epic medieval power struggles.
Next up is the Simpsons episode ‘Bart of Darkness.’ The title is primarily a pun on Joseph Conrad’s novella Heart of Darkness, but its narrative is almost a direct parody of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 thriller ‘Rear Window’
Then there’s the Rick & Morty episode titled ‘Pickle Rick’. This fan-favorite episode was explicitly structured as a parody of the famous Breaking Bad episode ‘4 Days Out’.
Lastly we have Bob’s Burgers parodying Jaws in the season 3 episode ‘The Deepening’ with its mechanical shark along with Bob’s obsession with killing the shark.
