These cartoon characters are total LARPers. And no, I don’t mean actual live action roleplay. I mean characters who pretend to be way smarter, cooler, or more important than they really are.
Starting with Brian Griffin, who desperately wants everyone to think he’s this sophisticated intellectual novelist. But his books constantly fail, he never graduated college, and the second he gets even a little bit of success, he immediately starts acting like he’s some world famous author.
Then there’s Peggy Hill, who genuinely thinks she’s a genius. She constantly brags about speaking Spanish even though her Spanish is terrible, once accidentally kidnapped a Mexican girl because she couldn’t understand her, and even got scammed by a fake online IQ test because she was so convinced she was gifted. \
Squidward is basically an art snob LARPer. He sees himself as this misunderstood artistic genius, but SpongeBob regularly shows more natural talent than him, and Squidward has even taken credit for SpongeBob’s artwork when somebody actually liked it.
Zapp Brannigan from futurama thinks he’s a legendary military commander and irresistible ladies’ man, despite being terrible at strategy, constantly getting his own troops hurt, and completely misreading basically every interaction he has with Leela.
And finally Cartman, who constantly becomes whatever political commentator, activist, or revolutionary benefits him that week. One episode he’s basically doing a Glenn Beck impression, another time he becomes a full blown Ginger supremacist the second he thinks he’s one of them.
