Side Characters that Guarantee it’s going to be a BAD Episode:
When these characters show up you know its time to change the channel:
Starting off we have Doug from Family Guy: He was supposed to be Stewie’s School Rival, but honestly the rivalry is so forced and boring. He’s supposed to be a Snobby Rich Kid with an adult voice, and if it worked it could have been like a Squidward vs Squilliam foil, but Doug is just way to unauthentic and poorly written, he was disliked so badly, the writers killed him off in during the Season 21 episode "The Candidate”
Next we have Helen Lovejoy: The Karen before Karen’s: She is probably the most hated Simpsons Character: Her 1 iconic line Think of the Children, could have been funny if she just wasn’t so annoying. Yes her character is intentionally written to satirize self-righteous moralizers, but repetitive one-liners and the fact that there is a lack of consequences for her own bad behavior just makes her a disliked character.
Moving on we have Sludge from My Little Pony: Most notorious for Manipulating Spike and tricking him into thinking that he is his Dad so he can live Rent free in Twilight’s house, it’s one thing to be a villain, but he’s a terrible character for no narrative value: He built up Spike’s lore for no reason, because none of it ended up mattering. It had zero impact and just felt pointless. He overstays his welcome both in universe and outside as a 1 dimensional character. The only Sludge we respect is Dinobot Sludge.
Lastly is Quips from Regular Show, He is literally designed to be annoying, but that doesn’t make him any less painful to watch. His entire personality revolves around telling terrible jokes, yelling “ZINGO!” and completely failing to read the room, even when everyone around him clearly wants him to stop. Quips never really develops or becomes more likable, so whenever he shows up you pretty much know the entire episode is going to revolve around everyone being forced to tolerate him.
