Description
Three children lost their lives in a brutal manner. Their mother admitted what she did. Yet the jury still couldn't reach a verdict.
That's what makes the Lindsay Clancy case so difficult - and so important - to examine carefully.
The central question at trial wasn't simply whether she caused the deaths of her children. Her defense argued that postpartum psychosis meant she was not criminally responsible, while prosecutors argued that she understood what she was doing and knew it was wrong.
After nearly six weeks in court, the case ended without a verdict. A mistrial.
And when you look at the arguments surrounding this case - and the public reaction to it - I believe there's a much deeper conversation we need to have about motherhood, responsibility, mental illness, justice, and the value of innocent life.
This really is not an easy subject. But it's one we shouldn't be afraid to examine with a biblical perspective.
