ପୁରୀ ଜିଲ୍ଲାର ବ୍ରହ୍ମଗିରି ବ୍ଲକ୍ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଗତ କାଣ୍ଡଗଦା ପଞ୍ଚାୟତର ଚଣ୍ଡପଡା, ପଲ୍ଲୀ, ବେହେରା ସାହି ଓ ହରପଡା ଅଞ୍ଚଳର ପ୍ରାୟ ୫,୦୦୦ ଲୋକ ଦୀର୍ଘଦିନ ଧରି ବିଶୁଦ୍ଧ ପାନୀୟ ଜଳର ଅଭାବ ସମ୍ମୁଖୀନ ହେଉଛନ୍ତି। ଚଣ୍ଡପଡାର ପ୍ରାୟ ୧,୭୦୦ ଲୋକ ସରକାରୀ ନଳକୂପ ନଥିବାରୁ ପୋଖରୀର ପାଣି ଉପରେ ନିର୍ଭରଶୀଳ ବୋଲି ଗ୍ରାମବାସୀ କହୁଛନ୍ତି।
ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ଲୋକଙ୍କ କହିବା ଅନୁସାରେ, ଯେଉଁ ପୋଖରୀରେ ସ୍ନାନ ଓ ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ଦୈନନ୍ଦିନ କାମ ହୁଏ, ସେହି ପାଣିକୁ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରିବାରୁ ଚର୍ମ ସମସ୍ୟା, ଝାଡ଼ା, ବାନ୍ତି ଭଳି ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସମସ୍ୟା ଦେଖାଦେଉଛି। ଗ୍ରାମବାସୀ ଏହା ମଧ୍ୟ ଅଭିଯୋଗ କରୁଛନ୍ତି ଯେ, ଅପରିଷ୍କାର ପାଣି ଓ ଅଧିକ ଆଇରନ୍ ଥିବା ପାଣି ବ୍ୟବହାର କରିବାରୁ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ରୋଗ ବଢ଼ୁଛି।
ଗ୍ରାମୀଣ ଜଳଯୋଗାଣ ମିଶନ ଅଧୀନରେ ପାଣି ପାଇପ ଗାଁ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ପହଞ୍ଚିଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ, ଘରୋଇ ସଂଯୋଗ ନ ଥିବାରୁ ଲୋକେ ରାସ୍ତା କଡ଼ରେ ଥିବା ଲିକେଜ ପାଇପରୁ ପାଣି ସଂଗ୍ରହ କରୁଛନ୍ତି। କେତେକ ପରିବାର ରନ୍ଧଣ ପାଇଁ ବର୍ଷାର ପାଣି ସଂଗ୍ରହ କରୁଛନ୍ତି। ବାରମ୍ବାର ଅଭିଯୋଗ ସତ୍ତ୍ୱେ ସମସ୍ୟାର ସ୍ଥାୟୀ ସମାଧାନ ହୋଇନଥିବାରୁ ଗ୍ରାମବାସୀ ଶୀଘ୍ର ପଦକ୍ଷେପ ନେବାକୁ ଦାବି କରୁଛନ୍ତି।
Residents of Chandpada, Palli, Behera Sahi, and Harpada under Kandgada Panchayat in Brahmagiri block of Puri district say they have been struggling with a lack of safe drinking water for decades. Around 5,000 people live in these villages, and according to residents, nearly 1,700 people in Chandpada depend on pond water because there is no government tube well.
Villagers say the same pond is used for bathing and other daily activities, raising concerns about water quality. They report health problems such as skin irritation, diarrhoea, and vomiting, and some residents believe that contaminated water and iron-rich groundwater may be contributing to illnesses.
Although pipelines have been laid under the Rural Water Supply Mission, household water connections have not been provided. As a result, people collect water from leaking pipelines along the roadside, and some families rely on rainwater for cooking. Residents say they have repeatedly raised the issue with elected representatives and government officials, but a lasting solution has yet to be implemented.
