In Gunduriposhi village of Saharpada Block, Keonjhar district, residents say that 75 people from 40 families are no longer receiving work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) after their names were reportedly removed from job card records.
According to the villagers, they have repeatedly submitted complaints to the Khuntapada Gram Panchayat and the Saharpada Block administration, but the issue remains unresolved. Many workers say their job cards were issued in 2018–2019, and although they initially received one or two weeks of work, they have not received further employment. They have been informed that their names are not appearing in the master roll.
This ground report highlights the challenges faced by daily wage labourers who depend on MGNREGA for their livelihood and their demand for restoration of employment opportunities. The response of the concerned authorities should also be included wherever available.
